If I were an animal, which one would I be and why?
If I were an animal, I would be a duck, as it is one of the only animals that has conquered earth, water, and air. They can move up to six miles an hour (on land), are amazing swimmers and divers, and can fly up to one thousand miles in a day. Why I relate to this animal is because like a duck I am versatile. It is important humans develop past our own limitations if we are to progress. Ducks are a good example of what it means to do this. They remind us of what is possible if only we believe in ourselves, work hard, and set our minds to learning new things.
Describe a difficult work situation and how I overcame it?
Operating as a Direct Marketing Manager, a position of which I traveled, required sales representatives to be on location without direct supervision. This situation was difficult in that when an employee lack experience and/or motivation the success of the company directly suffered.
I overcame this by hiring qualified sales representatives whenever possible—individuals of whom would be successful with or without my direct involvement. I sought individuals who expressed passion and had previously researched the organization and/or product of which they would be representing. I networked with other sales representatives and companies asking them to recommend responsible individuals in the field.
Naturally, hiring experienced sales representatives was not always possible. In cases when individuals were newly building skills, I organized my schedule to allow time to assist and support them. Though it required I spend energy away from other duties, the investment was worth working a little harder for. By doing this, long term I reduced the need for direct supervision thus saving time and money. Also, because additional training was provided employees often felt more successful. Besides, it gave me the opportunity to study and improve on myself, location aesthetics, and sales pitches. I connected periodically with staff to offer continued support. The result was more confident and motivated representatives.
